We have received many calls and emails about somebody in our group telling people on internet message boards and chat rooms that they will be happy to sneak them into our private functions for the singles group without paying. This activity will not be condoned.
Anybody who is not booked through us in the group will be turned away at all of our events and not allowed to sit in our dining area at night in the dining room. No exceptions. If there is somebody who is booked on the cruise, but not through us that you would like to have join us you should advise them to contact our office immediately so they may purchase a membership into the group. If booked through us, this is included in the price of your cruise. If not booked through us, the cost to participate varies by the length of the cruise. We would love to have them join and participate, but it is only fair that they pay for all the hard work and planning that goes into putting our groups together for you to enjoy. We have 6 full time employees to pay as well as office space to rent, utilites, etc.

Thank you for your understanding.

Thanks for making this statement!

Maybe you should hand out tickets during the check-in and then you can find out who all attended and keep out the rabble rousers. Also, you could find out who didn't show up and get an idea why not all the people who can attend, make it to the singles events.

From past experience, it seems like there's only about a 60-80% turn out at the events and maybe a 20% participation in the pre-cruise forums.

Each person in our group gets a necklace with their name on it at the first nights orientation cocktail party on the ship. This necklace also has a special bead on it that is particular for that cruise only. The name necklaces are generally required to enter any of our functions until the cruise directors get to know who is and who is not officially in our group. Even if somebody still has a necklace from a past cruise, it will not have the special bead specific to the current cruise if they are not booked in the group as they should be. We do ask that eveybody wear the necklaces as often as possible on the cruise anyway because it just makes it much easier for everybody to recognize who is in the group and also know their name. We also give away a nice prize at the end of the cruise to one person whom we know has worn their necklace the whole time. Cruise directors always have a list of people in the group and can at any time ask somebody without the necklace and specific cruise bead for their name to make sure they belong. If they dont' belong, they will be asked to leave.

Logan Six,
Obviously you have not been on enough single Cruises to make that statement or haven't counted right..I find close to 100% turnouts at all the free drinking parties that SC runs, which is usually 3 per 7 night cruise...Chuck

I know I've not been on as many as you, but we've been on a couple of the same cruises.
I know for a fact that there were people in the SC group that did not attend the free drink parties and/or theme nights. I have met people near the end of the cruise who are part of the SC group, that I did not meet or see at the events. Maybe it's closer to 80%, but it's surely not closer 100%.

I'm going to have to agree. I see most everyone at the orientation mixer to get their necklaces, but some I don't ever see again. Not everyone even shows for the 'free drinks' as, shockingly enough, not everyone drinks (I know, I'm surprised too .. hehe). I would go with 80-85%, somewhere in there.

For example, on this last 20/30's, there were only about 40 ppl at one of the theme nights out of the 150+ we had onboard. The Hawaiian night had a much better turnout, but not 100%. It really depends on the theme and other alternate activities available on board.

Hey Y'all,

Speaking of "alternate activities", as soon as dinner is over, I plan to find the sports bar so I can (hopefully) watch my beloved Cowboys on SNF. Cruise or no cruise, I am a diehard fan, win lose or draw!

"Hey" Susan - I know how you feel. I was on the Liberty for SC Labor Day Cruise and I committed myself to watch the opening game with Pittsburgh and the Tennessee Titans...Disappointed as a huge Jeff Fisher fan and Titans fan, but the sports bar is right through the Casino and you cannot miss it. The bar was filled with both teams fans and the only problem was the smoke. It took me until I got home to get my head cleared up. Of course, it was Thursday night then, so it only affected one day. As long as you can handle that, you will enjoy.....The other way to do it is that it should be on the TV in your cabin as they usually televise them. I decided during dinner that if the Titans were close that I would head down there to meet 5 other people to watch and it was tied so off I went. I have been a Bears, Steelers and Titans fan for a long time. Either way, they should be on TV......I know you will enjoy.......Rick

That's right-SNF is on NBC instead of ESPN, which was not avail in my cabin on other cruises. However, unless my cabinmate (whom I haven't met yet) is also a fan, I will probably brave the smoke and watch the game in the sports bar. Besides, it's usually more fun than watching it alone!

Yes Susan - And that is why I left the room and went down to join 5 from our group, one of which is from Dallas and a very huge Cowboy fan, but he was rooting for the Titans as well.
After I found out that the opening game was on NBC, which does a lousy job with NFL football, I was going to watch the game as long as it was close. Fortunately, the bar was so noisy the announcers and their BS did not come into play......It depends on who the Cowboys are playing, but they sure do have a major following in the country and we usually get them every Sunday here in Memphis as this is cowboy land as well.....Rick

Hi all. Been reading posts here as they've drifted from original thread and finding them very interesting and informative.

I don't mean to bore anyone, but I've been divorced about a year and have been making it a point to get out and do things which involve being with people, (dancing, watching sports on the big screen, etc), and I've just recently been looking into cruising. Since I've never vacationed solo, I want to avoid just going somewhere and staying in my hotel room or cabin.

As such, I noted one post mentioned something about disbelief concerning the idea that some don't drink. It was said in a good natured way, but sometimes that's how I soften the expression of a point, so first question:

Has anyone found not drinking to be a problem on singles cruises?

Not that I have the money for it, but I was even thinking about the NY's cruise and attending the "free drink" mixers holding my diet coke, but...?

The whole thread about many not attending several of the events got me wondering also.

So, second question:

If I'm gonna find myself just going off to other cruise activities lots of the time anyway, why pay double the price? After all, most cruise cabins are quite small, and I would probably go out and enjoy myself with others anyway.

If I've just made myself a wet blanket, I really want to apologize. I'm just after information. This sounds like a great group and I don't mean to offend. :^)

Holdenfoldem - Everyone that starts to think about cruising goes through a period of time questioning of whether it is the right thing or not. I am glad that I found Singlescruise.com and I am getting ready to go on my 3rd cruise this Sunday and this year. Everyone is different, but I have always been happy with myself knowing I will always find things to do that interest me. Cruising was just on my list of things I wanted to do and places to go while I could. I have never been a big drinker and one time quit totally, but drinking is not the main thing going with this particular group. Yes, there are theme parties and cocktail hours during the cruise, but no one pays any attention to whether someone drinks or not unless they become obnoxious, which I have not seen. I will say I drink more on the cruises than I do at home and I enjoy myself a great deal. You will never find a better group of people to be around as everyone is different as to what they do or do not do. Some people participate and some do not, but that is their choice just like if you room mate match. You may see them all the time or very little time during the cruise. I do not know what you mean by pay double the price unless you are going to get a cabin by yourself, then it does cost more. Some people do this and that is the way they want it. For me room-mate match is fine and I save the money. All I want is a place to sleep for awhile, change, shower, etc. The cabins on Carnival are larger than most, but I know I am out of there by 6:00 a.m. or so and back around 2:00 a.m. or so. Each person is different as to what they do. There are so many things to do on the ship, it would take a page to mention. The SC group keeps a busy schedule and you can participate or not with theme parties, walking, battle of the sexes, trivia, speed meeting (if you want), scavenger hunts, group beach parties or tours, plus anything that interests you that the ship has. I will say if someone does not have a good time, does not want to meet new friends, even relationships sometimes, just relax and do what they want, then cruising is not for them. To me it is a great way to spend time and amazing how you still have contact with many of the people you cruise with, outside the SC boards or within them. The cost of doing this is really not expensive considering the only thing you have to pay for would be boos, if you drink, cokes or other soft drinks, gambling , beach parties, tours, and stuff like that.....Otherwise, everything else is included in the price of the cruise. There is one thing for sure you will meet and become friends with people on a cruise........Hope this helps as I have not been cruising that long, but people do get hooked once they find out how much fun it is.........Rick

Whatever cruise you decide to do you will meet a great group of people..some will even become great friends. Between cruises there have been reunions on Toronto, Montreal, Orlando, Vegas, Chicago, and San Fran...join in here as well. The group is as varied as the personalities who cruise. There is no single requirement to enjoy yourself other than a smile...it's your vacation.

Susan ----- you're a Cowboys fan? All Right! I've been a die-hard fan since they started in '61. It's always much more fun to watch a game with a fellow fan, so keep in touch on the boat ----- I'm in room 6303, advise where you will be watching the game. Look forward to meeting you, fellow Texan ------ Allen

No offense, but really? You went on a cruise to watch a football game? LOL

I can hang out at a sports bar at home. When I'm on a cruise, I try to live a more exciting and adventurous life. I wouldn't have a problem choosing between meeting more single women or watching a sports game. Especially when the NYE cruise has a 2 to 1 ratio of women to men.

One of the best times on a cruise was watching a football game on the Lido Deck on the big screen with lots of cruisers. My team wasn't even playing either.

Mr Logan,

I think the best part of a cruise is that we can all do whatever we want to do! Therefore I fully support your choice to meet a lot of single women. On Sunday night my choice will be to watch my 'Boys play the Eagles!

I would hope that the issue of "trying to sneak people in" would not even come into play Rick and am sorry to hear someone would try to do so. Maybe you can post a thread about how Singles Cruise would handle someone outside of the group who would like to join in as I know there is that option to become part of the Singles Cruise Group for a fee based on the length of the cruise. I hope this does not become an issue on future sailings as I would hate to see Singles Cruise be forced to have to increase rates due to security issues.
