I don't mean to bore anyone, but I've been divorced about a year and have been making it a point to get out and do things which involve being with people, (dancing, watching sports on the big screen, etc), and I've just recently been looking into cruising. Since I've never vacationed solo, I want to avoid just going somewhere and staying in my hotel room or cabin.
As such, I noted one post mentioned something about disbelief concerning the idea that some don't drink. It was said in a good natured way, but sometimes that's how I soften the expression of a point, so first question:
Has anyone found not drinking to be a problem on singles cruises?
Not that I have the money for it, but I was even thinking about the NY's cruise and attending the "free drink" mixers holding my diet coke, but...?
The whole thread about many not attending several of the events got me wondering also.
So, second question:
If I'm gonna find myself just going off to other cruise activities lots of the time anyway, why pay double the price? After all, most cruise cabins are quite small, and I would probably go out and enjoy myself with others anyway.
If I've just made myself a wet blanket, I really want to apologize. I'm just after information. This sounds like a great group and I don't mean to offend. :^)
There have been several people that didn't drink. It's not an issue unless you make it an issue. No one knows whether you're drinking diet coke or a rum/coke and no one will ask or care. During the 'free drink mixers' you can go to the bar and order whatever you'd prefer to drink, if that's diet coke, then order it. :-)
I find it's worth the extra small fee to go the SC route for a few reasons:
1) Forums!! Had it not been for the forums last year I wouldn't have been nearly as prepared as I was plus knowing a big chunk of the people and personalities before I got on the boat was awesome!!
2) Necklaces! It's surprisingly easy to spot these little things to know who is/isn't with our group. Especially when you want to go to the next SC event and can't find your list to know where it is, inevitably you'll run into SOMEONE with a necklace and can ask them without looking like a wondering idiot (and by this I reference myself .. hehe).
3) People! I found I met a few people outside of our group in bars, but for the most part the majority were there with their own 'group' and not really there to meet other people. The group with SC on the other hand were very social in nature and fun to be around!
4) Free Drink Happy Hours! Ok, who doesn't like free drinks?! (doesn't matter if they are alcoholic or non-alcoholic! :-) ...)
5) Theme Parties! As a chick I like dressing up AND it gives you one more 'opener' to talk to that cute guy/girl you'd seen earlier in the group - compliment them on their costume/attire :-)
.... You can choose to do the SC excursions or do like I did and pick a carnival excursion I was really interested in and posted it on the forum and a few of the people from the SC group went with me, so we were our own little excursion group. With SC, you're never really alone, unless you choose to be.
My 2 cents anyway ;)
