New Years Eve 2009! We had a whole heap of people ready to celebrate and bring in the new year on a fun singles cruise. There was a fantastic buzz in the room at the Bahia Mar Hotel the night before we left. I met a few new SinglesCruise.com guests from Canada, Darrel and Dennis. Canadians are always so much fun, they sure do know how to party!
Our first cocktail mixer went off wonderfully, we had 250 guests meeting each other, checking their name beads and finding new friends. The weather was fantastic on the first sea day, everyone was up at the pool but they all got together for the singles wine and chocolate tasting that night. What a blast, all the cabins had fantastic chocolate, Joanne brought chocolate from Ohio…..which was, hands down, my favorite! Who knew they made great chocolate in Ohio?!
Our fun-loving group battled at ping pong and battle of the sexes all morning on our next sea day but we all made up by lunch time! We ate a lot on this cruise too, special New Years chocolate night and late night buffets, the food kept coming but we danced it off in salsa class. Hector and David cut a mean rug! They have Latino suave style – it was a blast to watch them dance. We also had our “Dancing Dee” this little lady closes the dance club every evening….she inspires all of us, thank you Dee!
I had tea with a few of our guests one afternoon, we decided we love those little cucumber sandwiches at “tea time.”
The countdown for New Years was fantastic! Everyone was on deck dancing to the live music and kissing each other like mad!! “HAPPY NEW YEAR!” You heard the entire ship bellow out at once and the ships horn sounded. What a great night – the open air, the great music, big smiles and of course a little champagne, we even had Harvey dancing until 2 a.m.!
The ports were so interesting. Costa Rica, Panama and Belize are all so authentic, they are not built up like some of the other Caribbean ports, and are really still very much the same as they’ve always been. You have to go on a tour because there is not much to do in the port area. So we went zip lining in the rain forest of Costa Rica, drove to the Indian Village and saw the canal in Panama and went cave tubing in Belize! It was all very exciting…..and warm until we started back home….little did we know it had been 40 degrees in South Florida! Can you imagine? So the last day at sea was a bit chilly but thankfully we were far enough south to get a little fun in the sun before returning to chilly tropical South Florida!
I hope we see you all again next New Years! We are going to leave out of New Orleans for a New Years Caribbean Affair singles cruise and if you haven’t seen this city it’s well worth the trip!
Happy New Years SinglesCruise.com!
Shelby
